Gwynne-Jones often took a supply of wooden panels on holiday with him so that he could make small pictures of landscapes. This panel was swiftly done outside, we may surmise, in the 1940s, when he was a senior lecturer at The Slade. It is looser in style than his earlier work, to catch fleeting effects of light.
